Lentsch Winery: The Leitha Mountains in a glass

At the foot of the Leitha Mountains, in the small community of Donnerskirchen, the Lentsch Winery makes no compromises. Its philosophy is as clear and concise as the wines it produces: it's not about quantity, but about authentic expression. The manageable size of the estate is not a disadvantage, but rather a guarantee of consistent craftsmanship. Every step – from the natural cultivation of the 20 hectares of vineyards to the precise selection in the cellar – is aimed at one goal: to bring the individuality of the terroir unadulterated into the bottle.

The foundation: shell limestone and the Burgundy family

The basis for this individuality lies in the soil. The Leithaberg, whose mineral veins run through the entire Burgenland region, presents itself here in its purest form: a subsoil of shell limestone and mica schist. These primeval, fossil-rich soils are no coincidence, but rather the geological heritage of a vanished sea. They are the perfect home for the indigenous varieties of the Burgundy family.

Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir find conditions here that few other places in the world can offer. The cool, structuring power of the limestone tames their fruit, while the slate gives them a salty, mineral tension. The result is Pinots that do not copy, but redefine: wines of elegant finesse and deep, earthy minerality that unmistakably tell the story of the Leithaberg.

The promise: Classic and Essence

This clear expression characterises the entire range, which is divided into two lines:

· The Classic line stands for immediate accessibility and varietal clarity. A Grüner Veltliner with the scent of fresh gooseberries or a Zweigelt with juicy cherry and blackberry aromas – wines that showcase the lively, drinkable side of the region.

· The Essence line, on the other hand, seeks depth and complexity. Here, the Burgundy varieties unfold their full mineral power. A Pinot Gris gains a dense, salty texture, a Pinot Noir from the Ried Vogelsang shows a deep ruby garnet colour with aromas of black cherries, supported by a structure of silky tannins and a long, stony finish.

The Essence: A distinctive taste experience

Whether in the fresh liveliness of the Classic wines or the serious, long-lasting depth of the Essence collection – every sip of Lentsch is a clear message. It is the taste of a specific place, elevated by a philosophy that places the natural above the manufactured.

The Lentsch winery thus proves that true greatness lies not in conforming to international trends, but in consistently listening to one's own soil. Here, one does not simply drink wine. One drinks a specific hill in easternmost Austria – and that is the highest compliment a winemaker can receive.
